Artes Mundi is an internationally focused arts organisation based in Cardiff, Wales. Through our biennial exhibition and prize and many other related commissions and community projects, we aim to recognise and present work by leading contemporary visual artists from across the world.
Presentations by each of our shortlisted artists will take different forms including talks, performances and film screenings. This is an opportunity to consider more deeply each artists practice and some of the themes such as personal and collective histories of migration and diaspora, globalisation, political power structures, and our personal fears and anxieties and what it means to be human with all its flaws, idiosyncrasies and potential.
The day aims to give a broader access to the ideas and themes that run through each artists’ practice but also to consider these presentations as a catalyst for conversation on society, culture and the usefulness of art. Bringing together disparate voices from different cultures from all over the world we invite you to listen and join this conversation.
Following on from the artist talks Claire Doherty (Situations Director) will lead a conversation with the audience along with Artes Mundi Director Karen MacKinnon and Artes Mundi 7 selectors Élise Atangana (Freelance curator) and Alistair Hudson (MIMA Director).
