Held Space Artists' Assembly

Date posted: August 11, 2020

Following on from four Artists’ Assembly events so far, Artes Mundi will hold monthly held-space Artists’ Assemblies for Black Artists and non-black Artists’ of Colour, hosted by Umulkhayr Mohamed and Sadia Pineda Hameed.

In May 2020, Artes Mundi began our first Artists’ Assembly as a way to create opportunities for all Wales-based artists to hold informal conversations sharing their experiences, practices and situations. Our intention was that through these, we might begin to imagine and shape our collective futures together.

Following an initial four Assemblieswe identified a need to create Held-Space Assemblies for Black Artists and non-black Artists’ of Colour, as dedicated safe spaces where experiences of the sector at this moment of time could be shared and held with respect. These will be facilitated by Umulkhayr Mohamed (Artist, curator and producer) and Sadia Pineda Hameed (Marketing & Communications Officer, Artes Mundi and artist).

We invite all Wales-based Black and non-black Artists’ of Colour to attend, connect and add to conversations about the future, both for the individual and collective communities that make up the arts sector.

The Assembly will involve multiple opportunities to ask questions of, and have further conversations with, the wider team at Artes Mundi.

We respond and listen to all voices and commit to ensuring our practices no longer allow room for systemic inequalities.

The event will be held in English.
