Chapter is an international centre for contemporary arts and culture, rooted in the heart of Cardiff, Wales. Established by artists in 1971 to celebrate experimentation and radical thought, it’s been a catalyst for creativity and critical thinking ever since.
They commission and present thought-provoking exhibitions, films, performances and multidisciplinary events by established and emerging contemporary artists who expand our worldview and challenge the status quo. Embracing multiple and diverse perspectives, risk-taking and experimentation, their programme encourages conversations that cross boundaries and disciplines.

The artists they work with actively engage with the critical questions and issues that shape our present and they foster dialogue between audiences and artists via a public programme that provides opportunities to connect through our histories, the way we live now and how we might imagine new futures.
Alongside their expansive public programme, they work behind the scenes to support the creative community in their 50+ studios and beyond, bringing people together to encourage ideas and collective agency.

How to Get There
On foot
Chapter is located in the West of Cardiff and it’s easy to find us from the city centre. You can use a walking route app to help you such as Map My Walk or Google Maps.
By bus
You can catch bus numbers 17, 18 direct (Chapter Arts Centre stop) every 5 minutes from Cardiff Central.
By bike
Chapter has covered bicycle racks outside our main entrance and a Next Bike Share Station is located on Market Place.
By car
For your convenience, Chapter operates a free car park at the rear of our building with six spaces designated for Blue Badge holders. It can sometimes get very busy but there are several alternative car parks nearby. The public car parks in Canton are operated by Cardiff Council and between 8am and 6pm they are free of charge for up to two hours. After this, there is a standard charge of £3 per day. Between 6pm and 8am and all day Sunday is free of charge.
There are some free parking bays on Market Place, to the front of Chapter. Please be careful when parking in this area as some spaces which appear to be designated parking bays are behind double yellow lines. Double yellow lines apply to the full area behind them, including the pavement, so if you have to cross them, you will be illegally parked and may receive a parking ticket.
