Artes Mundi 10 School Tours and Workshops

In October 2023 Artes Mundi will launch AM10, our tenth biennial exhibition and prize, celebrating our 20th anniversary of presenting groundbreaking international contemporary art in Wales. AM10 will take place across four cities with five venue partners and features the work of seven artists. To find out more about the AM10 shortlisted artists, please click here.

AM10 presents a unique opportunity for students to explore Contemporary Art. We have also created two creative and cross-curriculum units that will make connections across Areas of Learning and Experience and have been designed in response to the four purposes of the new curriculum. The units draw on a range of evidence, including the expertise and inquiries of the AM10 shortlisted artists and have been co-constructed with local experts and communities. Students will be supported to explore:

  • Human rights and responsibilities
  • Environmental Justice

These units have been designed for Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 but can be adapted for use with other Key Stages.

As part of a school visit you will receive an Education Resource Pack that includes:

  • Pre-visit information, containing information about the exhibiting artist you are going to see along with online content for you to share with your students that will help introduce the topics they are going to explore.
  • A guidebook that you can use during your visit. This will include potential questions for your students to discuss and explore whilst viewing the work.
  • Post-visit information, containing a short creative task that can be completed in the classroom, and that relates to the work in the exhibition. The post-visit information pack will also include additional information to support students’ further research.

How this matches the new curriculum

We have designed our work with schools to complement students’ development as ethical, informed citizens.

Through connecting with the creative and cross-curriculum units, students will:

  • Engage in creative and critical thinking to find, evaluate and use evidence in forming their views.
  • Engage with contemporary issues, and through creating opportunities for facilitated conversations, connect with their current knowledge and values.
  • Deepen their understanding of human and democratic responsibilities and rights and learn more about the needs and rights of others, as a respectful member of a diverse society
  • Explore their own cultures, community, society, and the world, now and in the past.
  • respect the needs and rights of others, as a member of a diverse society
  • Explore and learn about environmental justice and their individual commitment to the sustainability of the planet.
