Oasis One World Choir

May 2023 – April 2024

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund

As part of the public programme for AM10, we worked in partnership with venues to develop a series of projects with communities. These were realised in response to the themes and ideas present in the practice and works on display from each of the seven artists. The projects took multiple forms while communities also contributed to our podcast series and the production of interpretative labels shown in the galleries.

Oasis One World Choir worked with artist Mounira Al Solh on two collaborative performances on 20 October at National Museum Cardiff. Al Solh also created portraits of several members of the choir for her ongoing drawing series ‘I believe in our right to be frivolouswhich formed part of her exhibition for AM10.  Following the performances, we also organised a creative exchange where Oasis One World Choir met with Hafren Choir at Oriel Davies Gallery over the weekend of 20 January. Both choirs worked together on a sequence of events and activities including ‘singing walks,’ shared meals and performed in Carolina Caycedo’s exhibition as part of AM10. Overall, in addition to the public events involving over 20 participants, this community project also comprised 10 workshops, four interviews for inclusion in podcasts, and a text produced as a ‘para-label’ and presented alongside Al Solh’s work.
