Artes Mundi is an internationally focused arts organisation that identifies, recognises and supports contemporary visual artists who engage with the human condition, social reality and lived experience.
Artes Mundi is Latin for ‘arts of the world’, reflecting the international focus of this Wales-based arts charity whose mission is:
“To bring exceptional and challenging international art to Wales and to generate unique opportunities for individuals and local communities to engage creatively with the urgent issues of our time”.
Founded in 2002, Artes Mundi is best known for its biennial international Exhibition and Prize which takes place in Cardiff. The exhibition is one of Wales’ biggest and most exciting contemporary visual art shows. One of the shortlisted artists is awarded the prize of £40,000, the largest art prize in Britain and one of the most significant in the world.
Artes Mundi is a registered charity (registered number 1097377). Its trustees are widely respected figures from business, the visual arts community and the wider cultural sector.
