Wales Venice 10 Artist Residency

We had a fantastic time with the Wales Venice 10 Fellows for their artist residency in Somerset, 10-12 February, 2023. Friday kicked off the trip with a talk and tour from Briony Brickell, Associate Director of Learning for Europe at Hauser & Wirth Gallery in Bruton, home to a vibrant programme of exhibitions, events and learning activities which connect with the local community. The gardens on site, designed by Piet Oudolf, also proved a delight.

For a weekend of talks and conversations, we were joined by Benjamin Cook, founder and director of LUX, the UK agency for the support and promotion of artists’ working with the moving image; Osei Bonsu, British-Ghanaian curator and writer based in London and Paris, currently a curator of International Art at Tate Modern; and Zasha Colah, Artistic Director of Ar/ge Kunst in Italy, who collectively discussed international ways of working, cultural sovereignty and projects that encourage collaboration.

Alongside this programme of activities, artists were given time and space for reflection, walking and research, contributing to their individual development and creating food for thought as part of the more extensive developmental programme running until the end of March.
